When I picture a perfect day,
It begins with the ring of our alarm; an early start to our day
And it begins with your quiet footsteps, each with selfless intent to give me an extra five minutes
The lens of my eyes open to see what will be a perfect day
When I picture a perfect day,
I see the California sun shrining through all cracks and openings of our home
And I see the golden rays emanating warmth onto your skin, too
When I picture a perfect day,
I see a hallway filled with your detailed photography, bright paintings as well
And I see you gracefully overlooking PCH from our balcony
When I picture a perfect day,
I see us, as we are artists, grabbing our cameras, our tripods, our lenses
And I see us strolling along the palm trees to carefully load our creative outlets in the back of the car
When I picture a perfect day,
I see us rolling down the car windows to invite the ocean breeze in
And I see our quick trip down Highway 1 — with a plan in mind
When I picture a perfect day,
I see us making our usual stop for morning coffee
And I see the way your kind eyes and warm smile brightens the barista’s day
When I picture a perfect day,
I visualize our arrival to the jetty — stepping along the rocks, in search of a stable one to settle on
And I visualize the pure awe in our sparkling eyes, as we observe and capture the art of surfing
I absorb this tranquil and heartwarming moment in time,
Watching “my rock” sit amongst the rocks
When I picture a perfect day,
I visualize you clicking away
And I visualize myself looking over your shoulder to see the magic you caught on camera
When I picture a perfect day,
I visualize you leaning toward me every couple minutes to encourage my creativity to live on
And I visualize you leaning back, taking a deep breath — one of contentment, fulfillment…
Knowing you are home.
When I picture a perfect day,
You are always my subject matter — for any day spent with you is perfect
As I think of a day that is ideal to me,
The only thing needed is you — a day of “we”
